Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains, Stony Creek Farm and Orchard offered a magical field trip experience for our Emerging Chefs students this fall.

Not only were our students able to hand pick 4 seasonal varieties of apples, Stony Creek owners, Jeff, Anne, and Marian Dalke welcomed the students into their home like family to bake and taste test products of the orchard.

The students also learned about the mission of Stony Creek, which is to maintain the land as an active farm, conserve its natural resources, and to continue the tradition of Shenandoah Valley apple orchards by producing apple varieties that are culturally and historically significant to the region.
All of the 34 different varieties of apples grown at Stony Creek are used to make their fresh apple cider, as well as wholesale to local cider brewers.

If you or someone you know would like to support Emerging Chefs in a similar way to Stony Creek, ie. have a cooking skill or space you’d like to share, please email kristi@ontheroadcollaborative.com
